Intermediate Millinery Intensive 2026
A workshop for those with some millinery experience. A five day course with 3 different tutors.
Lauren Ritchie – Crin Brims
Lauren will be teaching you how to work with millinery crin sold by the metre, using it to create and develop brims. The focus will be on understanding the material and learning techniques that you can take away and apply to your own designs. ( Wednesday and Friday)
Lynette Lim – Racello Straw Braid
Lynette will introduce you to working with Richelieu straw braid, creating either a pillbox or beret while learning the techniques involved in shaping and constructing with this beautiful material. ( Thursday)
Louise Macdonald – Beyond the Block:Creating Shapes with Sinamay
I’ll be teaching techniques for creating your own structured shapes from sinamay without relying on a specific hat block. Some of you may have already learnt the pillbox technique with me at the Ballarat Millinery Convention. If so, I’ll have more advanced techniques and design possibilities for you to explore. If you haven’t done the pillbox workshop before, you’ll be able to learn the foundation techniques during our two days together. (Monday and Tuesday).
Throughout the week, our emphasis will be on learning and mastering techniques rather than necessarily completing a finished hat in every session. You may go home with a couple of partially completed pieces, but with a much better understanding of how to use the techniques confidently in your own work. Most importantly, we want to encourage you to experiment and develop your own designs, rather than simply reproducing a sample.
